Szőke brings the stone down from the mountain and gives it life through its final form. This is the sculptor’s divine privilege, akin to that of blacksmiths working with fire - a special status that first and foremost entails responsibility. Szőke creates with full awareness of this responsibility. He wandered the mountain paths of Seravezza, Italy, among marbles, and sweated in the dust of Carrara quarries. Through the study of Michelangelo’s oeuvre, he learned to breathe with the noble material. His sculptures are born from this dynamic.
