Winter Dance – An Evening with the Hungarian National Dance Ensemble

Advent in the Buda Castle Palace District

Téli tánc

The Hungarian National Dance Ensemble considers the Folklore Calendar series one of the key pillars of its artistic mission. In this program, forgotten and fading traditions and customs tied to special days of the year come to life on stage. The audience is invited into the atmosphere of old spinning-room evenings and the lively festivities of lucázás, and they can witness everything from “witch dances” associated with ancient superstitions to traditional betlehemezés, the Hungarian nativity play.

This dance evening focuses on the winter holiday season, presenting the rich and colorful traditions spanning from the harvest to the end of Carnival, while highlighting the central role of Hungarian folk dance and folk music.
