VárkertFeszt 2024

másnap

Celebrate the 10th anniversary of the renovation of the Castle Garden Bazaar with the jubilee cultural season at our VárkertFeszt (“Castle Garden Fest”) arts festival from 31 May to 2 June. The three-day programme series will feature exhilarating family events, electrifying concerts, literary programmes, guided tours, workshops and special gastronomic surprises for young and old in the Castle Garden Bazaar. Explore the complex on the Buda side of the Danube, once one of the world's most endangered monuments, but now a bustling cultural hub again, adorned with a unique Neo-Renaissance garden making it a true gem of Budapest.

The starting point is a collection of numerous unreleased songs, preserved in various states of completion, by the Tamás Cseh Archive. In the Katona József Theatre in 1986, alongside the staging of "Mélyrepülés" (Nosedive), a new "musical tragicomedy" with lyrics and accompanying songs was well underway. However, the political unrest of the late 1980s and Csengey's untimely death prevented these songs from being performed by Tamás Cseh or recorded for an album. The 30th anniversary of Dénes Csengey's death adds a particular poignancy to this contemporary event.
