Kossuth Prize–winning Mónika Lakatos is one of the most respected and internationally recognised performers of Hungarian Oláh Gypsy music. In 2020, she became the first Roma artist to receive the WOMEX Lifetime Achievement Award, often referred to as the Oscar of world music. With her Folk Trio, she performs Oláh Gypsy songs enriched with elements from other musical traditions, while consistently preserving and honouring the heritage of her own culture. In this formation, she is accompanied by her husband, Mihály Rostás Mazsi, on guitar and vocals, with a guest percussionist joining the ensemble.
