EXIsT - Dance in the Garden

VárkertFeszt 2024

exist

Celebrate the 10th anniversary of the renovation of the Castle Garden Bazaar with the jubilee cultural season at our VárkertFeszt (“Castle Garden Fest”) arts festival from 31 May to 2 June. The three-day programme series will feature exhilarating family events, electrifying concerts, literary programmes, guided tours, workshops and special gastronomic surprises for young and old in the Castle Garden Bazaar. Explore the complex on the Buda side of the Danube, once one of the world's most endangered monuments, but now a bustling cultural hub again, adorned with a unique Neo-Renaissance garden making it a true gem of Budapest.

Our contemporary society raises the question of what it truly means to be a woman in today's world. In this performance, two women, two individuals, seek answers, independently from and also in relation to each other. They are each other's friends, rivals, siblings, mother, and sometimes each other's projections, each other's opposites. Although different, the expectations society places on them create a common destiny. The play approaches the subject with unvarnished raw honesty and acerbic humour. The language of movement, the visual and musical elements of the performance convey feelings of agitation, eroticism, uninhibitedness, and a sense of hopelessness.

The conclusion of the play is more a question to the audience than a precise answer. How can a woman achieve true fulfilment? How does she relate to the issue of masculinisation? How can she cope with her own reflection, her addictions and her greatest enemy, time?
